Data Treasure and Data Protection
On January 31, Federal Minister of Education and Research Bettina Starck-Watzinger visited the steering committee of the "Learning Systems Platform", which was launched in 2017 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and the Academy of Science and Engineering acatech.
There, experts from science, industry and society create an understanding of how AI works, its application fields and its impact through their interdisciplinary work. Prof. Jörn Müller-Quade from the KASTEL Security Research Labs at KIT and head of a working group of the platform gave a keynote speech on the partly critical relation between data use and data protection during the minister’s visit. In the talk, he contrasted technical and legal approaches to data protection-compliant and public good-oriented use for AI systems.
